Remember squeezing into a mall photo booth with your best friend, pulling the curtain shut and waiting for the flash? The enclosed photo booth is having a massive comeback, and couples are asking for it again. Here at Pure Portrait we're all in, with three curtain booths for Calgary photo booth rental and mountain weddings alike. Whether you need a wedding photo booth in Calgary, a Banff wedding photo booth or a photo booth in Canmore, every booth is $1,649 and comes with a video guestbook.
Why the enclosed photo booth is making a comeback
The photo booth turned 100 in 2025, and instead of fading away it's having a moment. CBC Radio's As It Happens covered the comeback in the selfie era, noting that young adults are "rediscovering" booths and that "Gen Z is very tuned into things that are quite authentic and real" (CBC). The Week called it a revival, pointing to young people lining up at a 1970s booth in New York and the "curtained privacy" that makes booths so fun (The Week). NBC News reported that only about 200 working film photo booths are left in the world, yet they're surging in popularity with Gen Z (NBC News), and a vintage booth studio just opened in Chicago to ride the "return to analog" (Chicago Sun-Times).
From what we see at weddings every weekend, it comes down to three things:
- Privacy. Pull the curtain and people relax. The poses get sillier, the kisses get bigger, and nobody's watching from the dance floor.
- A real print. Everyone's phone is full of photos they'll never look at again. A strip in your hand goes on the fridge, in a wallet or in a frame.
- No retakes. You get your frames and that's it. That little bit of pressure is half the fun.
Our three enclosed booths for vintage photo booth rental
We didn't just add one vintage booth to the lineup. We went all in with three, because every crowd is a little different.
Retro: the classic mall booth
The Retro booth is the one you remember from the mall. Pull the curtain, get three frames in a row, and walk away with an instant 2x6 strip. Pick black and white for that vintage print look, or colour to keep outfits true to the night.
Nostalgic: the heirloom strip
The Nostalgic booth is our sit-down curtain booth. Step in, pull the curtain, and three frames print on the spot as a strip worth keeping for decades. It's perfect for couples who want a printed keepsake, not just a digital gallery.
Late Night Analog: the party booth
Late Night Analog is the enclosed booth we built for the evening. A custom marquee sign on top can carry your names, and the front screen can be branded with a monogram or logo, which makes it a favourite for monogram weddings, corporate nights and brand activations.
Classic strips, plus something new
Every booth prints real strips on the spot, in timeless black and white or classic colour against the red curtain. Those are the looks our booths are known for. New this year at the Nostalgic booth, guests can also pick an Old Hollywood sepia look, and it's already a crowd favourite.
A video guestbook on every booth
Every booth comes with a video guestbook. There's a phone right at the booth, so guests can leave you a video message after they grab their strips. Months later you get to replay the toasts, the inside jokes and Grandma's advice.
Popular wedding venues for an enclosed photo booth
A curtain booth has a small footprint and needs only a power outlet and a corner, so it fits ballrooms, barns and mountain lodges alike. Always confirm setup space and timing with your venue coordinator. Here are some of the venues we know well.
Calgary wedding venues
- Fairmont Palliser – Historic ballrooms where a classic curtain booth feels right at home.
- The Lake House – Lakeside and cozy; the booth tucks beside the dance floor for the late-night rush.
- Charbar (East Village) – An industrial rooftop vibe that suits the black-and-white template.
- Bow Valley Ranche – A heritage ranch house where a vintage photo booth matches the setting.
- Azuridge Estate Hotel (just southwest of Calgary in Priddis) – An elegant foothills estate for a classic, timeless strip.
Banff wedding venues
See our Banff photo booth rental page.
- Fairmont Banff Springs – The "Castle in the Rockies." We've set up booths for weddings here, and a vintage curtain booth looks made for it.
- The Rimrock Resort Hotel – Mountain-view reception spaces with room for a booth off the dance floor.
- Banff Centre – Modern spaces that pair well with the branded Late Night Analog booth.
- Mount Norquay – A mountain-lodge party where a curtain booth keeps the energy going.
Canmore wedding venues
See our Canmore photo booth rental page.
- Silvertip Resort – Big mountain views outside, and a Canmore wedding photo booth inside once the sun goes down.
- Cornerstone Theatre / The Vista at Cornerstone – A theatre setting that's a natural fit for a marquee-topped booth.
- The Malcolm Hotel – A boutique hotel where a compact enclosed booth fits neatly into the reception.
- Canmore Golf & Curling Club – A relaxed clubhouse reception that's perfect for silly strips.

Why we're all for it
We were voted Avenue Calgary's Best Photo Booth, and we've watched this trend grow from a few curious couples into the booth everyone asks about. There's something about a curtain, a flash and a strip in your hand that a phone just can't match. We love seeing grandparents and teenagers pile into the same booth and come out laughing.
Enclosed photo booth FAQ
How much does a photo booth cost in Calgary?
Every Pure Portrait booth is $1,649, whether you choose Retro, Nostalgic or Late Night Analog. There's no travel fee in Calgary.
Do you bring the photo booth to Banff and Canmore?
Yes. Travel is $99 to Canmore and $149 to Banff, and we work at venues across the Rockies.
What's the difference between an enclosed and an open-air photo booth?
An enclosed booth has walls and a curtain, so guests get privacy and a classic printed strip. An open-air booth is a camera in front of a backdrop. Enclosed booths tend to bring out sillier, more candid moments.
Does every booth include a video guestbook?
Yes. Each booth has a phone attached, so guests can record a video message for you after their strips print.
Is there a discount if I book Tkshotz for my wedding photos?
